"Image, among many things, is both the projection and the perception of an idea or attitude or reflection—the confluence of expressions and the establishment of a mental representation of… something..."
"One thing I've discovered about myself through making art, is that I'm the kind of artist (person really) who likes to take very common things, even trash at times, and—through some affected action of labor—transform those things into some almost ridiculously fussed-over image. "
Kristin Bly
In
2005, artist Kristin Bly collected the detritus of CAC's workdays into
a window display, demonstrating just how much paper material is
generated in the course of planning, creating, installing and marketing
Center exhibitions.
This window display, obscuring the interior of the building while exposing the products of the work inside, greeted passers-by as part of the exhibition Incorporated: a recent (incomplete) history of infiltrations, actions and propositions utilizing contemporary art.
He's back for a limited engagement, and this time, his work may not be
as immediately recognizable. This time his work is "hidden in plain
sight" -- inside the Center.
Bly's work will inhabit CAC galleries but may look very much like something else -- or nothing at all.
Go on a treasure hunt. Gather clues onsite. Find art where you most expect it.
