Docent Opportunities

Become a Docent at the Contemporary Arts Center

Join the dynamic team of CAC docents and give student tours of the UnMuseum, the CAC and its exhibitions.

CAC docents are volunteers in the Education Department who are specially trained to present tours and educational programs to visitors, especially school groups. Docents are the teaching staff of the CAC and assist the Education Department in a variety of ways. Their mission is to communicate an excitement about and interest in contemporary art to the public, young or old, in the Center or out in the Cincinnati community.

The rewards of becoming a CAC docent are many: contributing to the cultural life of the city, helping children and adults discover art, making new friends, learning about contemporary art and an insiders view into one of the top contemporary art
organizations in the country.
Other benefits include access to the Members Lounge, annual parties, special invitations to artist talks, visits to artists studios, free admission to CAC events, art themed excursions, and copies of each CAC-produced exhibition catalogue.

Docent training begins in January with the sixteen-week course Art as a Second Language, which teaches docents about how to conduct effective and interesting tours. An introduction to contemporary art history is also taught in order to better orient the incoming docents to the art of today. Docents graduate and begin giving tours in May. Docents will each lead two tours
a month and must attend orientations for each new exhibition.
